Our Work

Financial Inclusion

At Shakti Foundation, we are dedicated to improving financial access and services for the unbanked, with a specific focus on waste pickers. Our vision is to empower individuals, especially women and children, from the most vulnerable communities by making financial services more accessible to them.

The Problem

Most waste pickers do not have bank accounts and lack essential documents such as ration cards, health cards, income/caste certificates, and PAN cards, restricting their access to various services and benefits.

Waste pickers earn a daily wage of 300-500 INR and only 5% of them are linked to a financial institution

The Solution

We assist waste pickers in completing the necessary documentation to open bank accounts, which serves as a gateway to financial inclusion. Furthermore, we extend our support to other family members, and provide financial literacy training to them. Over the past eight years more than 4500 Jan Dhan accounts have been operationalized
