Along with Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF), Shakti Foundation started a digital literacy drive in the communities of Bengali Basti at Masudpur and Ghazipur, New Delhi. We aim to empower over one thousand women and girls from the slum by providing them access to information, education, rights, and entitlements through the medium of digital technology. Our ultimate aim is to make women from the underserved communities capable of running their own online enterprises and provide access to information for underprivileged children via the digital medium.
We provide an environment to girls and women where they can learn to use information and communication technologies which will help them gain skill sets for establishing their identity in the digital marketplace. Digital literacy training centers of Bengali Basti and Ghazipur are equipped with computers, tablets, projectors, and UPS systems where the women and girls get hands-on experience of using these technologies.
With the technical and training support of DEF; numerous sessions on topics such as digital and financial inclusion, basics of English, photography, videography, business plan, and others were conducted successfully. As a result of our intervention, there’s a visible positive change in the confidence of the women and girl participants. The intervention has also improved the functional knowledge of MS Office and financial literacy.
We hope to add more centers in partnership with DEF in deserving underserved urban slums.
